What are the energy costs to use a PC and laptop in the UK ?
A desktop PC uses around 100 watts of electricity, the equivalent of 0.1 kWh. This means that if a PC is on for eight hours a day, it will cost 10p a day to run the desktop PC (based on an average energy unit cost of 12.5 p/kWh).
A laptop uses less energy at around 50 watts of electricity, the equivalent of 0.05kWh. This means that if a laptop is on for eight hours a day, it will cost 5p a day to run the laptop PC (based on an average energy unit cost of 12.5 p/kWh).
If we are talking about a server then that can use around 1000 watts of electricity, the equivalent of 1kWh. This means that if a server is on for eight hours a day, it will cost £3 a day to run the server (based on an average energy unit cost of 12.5 p/kWh).
