New Rules On Porting Phone Numbers

Ofcom has announced today that new European regulations would require that mobile phone companies should facilitate the transfer of a consumer’s phone number from one network to another within one day from 11 April 2011.

This would also apply to businesses who wish to transfer a large number of phone numbers to another network. For fixed porting, switching providers involves certain additional steps, such as measures to ensure that customers are protected from slamming (where a customer is switched to another provider without their permission).

Providers will have to port fixed numbers within one working day but only after these steps have been completed. Communications providers will also have to offer reasonable compensation to customers following any delay or abuse in porting their number.

So it should make it easy and fast for us to port our numbers, well lets see how well this works out.
